Brysen was going to get himself killed. I wasnât stupid. Okay, sometimes I could be naïve and miss things, but everyone could now and again. Though this time I caught on. The moment they suggested we go fess up to the kelpie court, I suspected it was all a ploy to help me. And when Prince Aeneas started coaching me how to link up as fairies so we could share energy, giving me the strength to read the kelpie princeâs mind for answers on my parentsâ¦
Seriously? I would have to be mentally disabled and drunk not to figure that one out.
Which left me with loads of questions I tried not to think of since my mind was going to be viewed. But how could I not? My thoughts would simply drift. Why were all the shots in the gut? Vampires couldnât die from that. Either it was the worldâs worst assailant or it was a set up.
And round and round I went, each time, trying desperately to smack myself out of it and focus on Prince Aeneasâs instruction. Finally, we arrived, the chopper sent by the brownie court, making me even more nervous to land at the kelpie court. Granted, they were all attached in one huge stronghold, the ruling line taking the main areas and throne for their hundred years. Most of the royals didnât live there during that time, instead staying in their areas for functions and more as home turf during issues.
Except whoever was next to rule. From what I knew, they tended to stick around and remind everyone that they should start getting their lips ready to kiss a new ass⦠Which was why the prince of the kelpies stayed as well if anyone asked me.
So I was completely shocked to see a gorgeous man who was the spitting image of Prince Lokan Aeneasâexcept a bit shorterâstepping out of a different helicopter when we landed.
âBrother, you didnât have to come,â Lokan greeted, hugging his sibling tightly. The affection between them was true and obvious to anyone watching. âYouâre so busy andââ
âAre you kidding? You are willingly coming to the fairy court, and when you know itâs most dangerous for people to get their hooks in you. Iâm not missing whateverâs going on! Besides, I want to meet this man whoâs making my brother so happy and talk with this PR guy you think I need.â
I could tell from the matching looks of dismay from Diego and Brysen they had no idea what was going on or that the future king of the fairies would show up. I had a bit more practice with this, though, and decided to help them out.
âYour Highness, itâs an honor to meet you,â I greeted, kneeling before him and bowing my head. âI am Major Ensele, loyal subject to the fairy throne, member of the Diego Thorwald crest, and student to your beloved brother, who I hold in the highest regard.â
âOh, heâs good. Youâve spent time at court.â Prince Aeneas laughed gently and I couldnât help but flinch.
